What Window Tinting actually is.

Window tinting is the application of a thin polyester film to the interior surface of a vehicle's glass. The film filters visible light, reduces solar heat entering the cabin, and blocks UV radiation that causes interior fading and skin damage.

**Important note for Italian-registered vehicles:** The Italian Highway Code (Codice della Strada) restricts tinting on front side windows and the windscreen. At freshcardetail, we apply tint to rear side windows and the rear screen only — in compliance with Italian law. We do not apply film to front side windows or the windscreen. If you are operating a vehicle under a different registration jurisdiction with different regulations, contact us before booking.

Window tinting is suited to vehicle owners who notice significant cabin heat in summer, drive with passengers (children, pets) in the rear, want to reduce fading of leather and interior trim, or prefer a more uniform, private appearance for the rear cabin.

It is a practical modification rather than a purely cosmetic one — quality tint film reduces solar heat gain significantly, reducing the load on the air conditioning system in warm weather.

The Process

How Window Tinting works.

Glass assessment

We inspect the interior glass surface for existing contamination, delamination of factory privacy glass, or any condition that would affect film adhesion.

Glass preparation

Interior glass is cleaned thoroughly — residue, haze, and silicone from interior products will prevent adhesion if not removed.

Film cutting

Film is cut to the window pattern using a software cutting system for accuracy and minimal waste.

Installation

Film is applied wet using a slip solution, positioned precisely, and squeegeed for full adhesion with no air pockets or dust inclusions.

Cure

Film requires 2–4 days to fully cure. During this period, windows should not be operated (wound down). Small water bubbles visible immediately after installation clear as the moisture escapes.

Common questions

Can you tint my front side windows?

No — Italian road regulations prohibit tinting on front side windows and the windscreen of standard passenger vehicles. We apply film to rear side windows and the rear screen only. This is non-negotiable for vehicles registered and operated in Italy, and we will not apply film that places a vehicle outside legal compliance.

My car already has factory privacy glass at the rear. Do I need tinting?

Factory privacy glass provides some privacy but less heat and UV rejection than a quality tint film. You can add tint film over factory privacy glass to improve heat rejection and UV blocking. The combined appearance will be darker — we confirm this with you before installation.

What film shades are available?

We offer a range of shades for rear windows. Darker shades provide more privacy and solar rejection; medium shades provide a cleaner appearance with practical benefits. We advise on the most appropriate shade when you contact us.

Will the tint affect my reversing camera or rear sensors?

Quality tint film does not affect rear sensors (they operate at frequencies unaffected by window film). Camera visibility is slightly reduced in low-light conditions with very dark tint shades — we factor this in when advising on shade selection.

How long does the installation take?

A standard rear window tint takes approximately 2–3 hours. The vehicle can be collected the same day, but windows should not be operated for 2–4 days during cure.
